Calendar Blocking

Today, we’re diving into calendar blocking. This is much, much more than a to-do list, folks. It’s a crucial part of your day that can seriously help calm the chaos.

Let’s break it down: a to-do list is a more organized brain dump. Calendar blocking is actually putting those tasks from your to-do list on your calendar. By doing this, you are carving out time inside your calendar to get each and everything done. This prevents you from getting to the end of the day with a long list and nothing done!

Google Calendar and other online calendars are great because of their flexibility, but pen and paper are okay too. Write those tasks on post-it notes and move those tasks around within your calendar. That way, if you run out of time, you can still move them around.

Start including goals that were pushed to the back of your mind months ago. Calendar blocking ensures they get the attention they need. That way, you are able to continue pushing towards goals in bite-sized chunks, avoiding burnout.

If you find yourself running out of time, consider breaking down your tasks even further, down to 2-minutes. You’ll be surprised in what can be accomplished! In the carpool line, instead of scrolling social media, waiting for an appointment–these little pockets of time are valuable.

You’ve got to be willing to say no. There is a give and take with everything in your life. You can’t do it all, and we often will overload ourselves. It’s OKAY to say no and offload that through delegation. If you really think you can take on more things, simply look at how your time is spent and decide for yourself.

It’s an amazing feeling to accomplish one task after another in a domino effect. Make your list, get it on the calendar, and knock it out!
