Today, we’re sitting down with Christina Howard, founder of Intently, keynote speaker, and IPEC-certified coach who helps corporate leaders find deep levels of fulfillment in their work.

A major challenge business leaders face, Christina says, is how hard it is to find and keep good talent. The professional and personal worlds are blending, she says, and it’s more important than ever to create a culture of empathy to keep up with that. In addition, change fatigue is something hitting everyone hard. Leaders have to understand how to be empathetic towards themselves so they can hold space for their team.

When you become more self-aware or self-accepting, you’re able to metabolize feedback much more effectively because you don’t get stuck in self-doubt. There are a few ways to become more self-aware: start paying attention to the data that your body is giving you. This is valuable information that you can learn from! In addition, surround yourself with the right people who can provide you feedback without projecting. This person is able to see things through your perspective.

Being self-aware is not going to limit growth, what’s going to limit growth is a lack of self-awareness. If we’re not personally growing, how can we be professionally growing? A team can only grow at the pace of the leader. If the leader is not evolving, then the team is going to get stuck at a certain level too.
